Nesting Bowls

I taught my Nesting Bowl class last night. It went really well. I let my students choose weather they would like to learn on double pointed needles or magic loop on circular needles. One person decided on double points and the rest learned magic loop. The class went really well and they all learned how to knit in the round starting at the bottom of the bowl and working there way up. So since the class is over I thought that I would give the pattern away. So just click on the link on the right side of the page and enjoy.

Thanks for the picture Jami!!!

Spinning

I got a little spinning done today! I think that I am going to make Thursday mornings spinning time. My sons all fence on Thursday mornings and then we eat lunch at the fencing center. After lunch my younger ones play games while my eldest participates in a conversational french group that I got going. One of the fencing masters is leading the group and the kids are learning a ton. So what this all means is that I sit at the fencing center for about 3 hours. I figure this would be a great time to get some spinning done. So Thursdays are the new spinning day around here. We will see how long I keep this up. I don't have very much fiber so I guess I will have to buy some. Darn!

This is what I did today. Thanks Tanya for the fiber I love it!

Change of Focus

Hi everyone! I am still here, I have just had a slight change of focus. I am still getting the Chritmas gifts done but I am also back into my running. I am trying to find a marathon to run next year and it is taking up some energy. You see I have an obsessive personality and I need to iron out the detail so that I can start focusing on running and knitting at the same time. My best friend Tara and my great friend Joann ( I consider both of them family) and I are running a marathon in late 2010 or early 2011. Joann and Tara both change age groups and they want to race a marathon to celebrate!!! So I am in and it is huge. I have done two marathons now and I tell you what the training and commitment is brutal. So I want to make sure that we pick the right race.

By the way if you have never done a marathon, do one!!!! It is amazing and you don't have to run. I walked my first one.

So along with all the holiday knitting I will be focused on getting back in to great shape. My son told me that I wasn't looking as thin as I used to the other day. I think that should be motivation enough. Got to love those very honest children. So here is to my new focus!!! THE BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE 2010!!!!!

Have a great day and Happy Knitting, Trish

Finished More Socks

These are worsted weight socks made out of a yarn called Raggi. I really love the way that this yarn turns into fake fair ilse!!! It just made these easy socks look hard!!! I think that I might put leather pads on the bottom of these and make slippers out of them for my eldest son. I am making another pair as a gift for someone on THE LIST!!! If you live in the Portland area you can purchase Raggi at The Knitting Bee.

A Little Spinning

I spent a couple hours spinning this afternoon. It was nice to be back at the wheel. Knitting is my first love, but spinning has a nice spot in my heart. I spun up this little skein for my friend Tanya. She bought some fiber at Sock Summit and I told her I would spin it up for her, as a gift for her b-day. So here is the days work!!! Ha, with all that Christmas knitting that I have to do you know that this is not all today's work!!! Who am I trying to kid???

I am not getting younger!!!

I woke this morning to the sound of Canadian Honkers! Fall is looming ever closer. I lay there and thought of the seasons changing and the days getting shorter and at the same time I realized that it is Sandrey's B-day today!!! There is nothing like your children getting older to make you feel your age. Don't get me wrong I don't feel old, I can just remember when I was 8 and I can also remember when I wasn't 8 and he was born. He is my sweet boy and I love him. Happy Birthday Sandrey!

It's Not Back To School Day!!!

It is Not Back To School Day today! Homeschooled kids from all over Oregon converge on Oaks Park today to ride rides and celebrate the start of a new homeschool year. It is really neat to see hundreds of homeschooled children in one place. They meet new friends and see old ones and overall they have a really nice day. Who doesn't like an old fashioned amusement park? I will try to remember to take pictures for tomorrow.

Oh and yesterdays finished project!!!

Unschooling at my house!!!

Ok, I have been an unschooler for years and I really believe that children are interested in many things and will learn all the things that they need to know, to become successful adults. Part of that belief is that when your children ask to learn something you help them find the resources and teach them to follow through. My eldest son really wants to go to college some day and he wants to be prepared. He wants to be able to pass the exams to get in to college and be able to pass the classes when he gets there. In other words he needs to learn how to study!!!! So this year our unschooling house looks a lot like school at home.

Sandrey, my middle son, wants to learn to read, so we are working on that and I threw in a little math for him because he likes it. Elliott, the youngest just wants to do what his BIG brothers are doing, so he has some math and dot to dots. This in new for me, we will see how long it lasts. Don't get me wrong we are always actively learning! It just doesn't usually look like school at home!

Oh and here are the two finished gifts from yesterday!!!!

I am back

I have been just so overwhelmed with the idea of getting all these gifts knit for Christmas, that I have not had the energy to blog. I have 9 gifts finished and two more will be done today!!! Then I have to quickly knit up something for a baby shower this weekend!!!! I have two babies to knit for, two friends B-days and two of my children's b-days to make things for before Christmas. I keep telling myself I can do this. I can, can't I????? Enough of the panic, I have this to show you.

I finished a small shawl. I am not sure who this is for yet but I have a few people in mind.

Also I finished some socks!!! What is new right.

I have a hat on the needles and another small shawl and of course some socks oh and a little mouse. Those are only the things on needles intended for gifts. I have a feeling that I will have some wool soakers on the needles by the end of the day. Wish me luck!!! If I disappear again it is because I am drowning in PANIC.
